On 12 November, I attended the Räbechilbi (all in German, sorry!), which is a traditional fall festival here in Switzerland. People carve turnips (Rübe) sort of like we carve pumpkins, only more just scratching the skin away instead of cutting out openings, and the designs include things besides scary faces! There is a procession of children carrying them as well as large parade floats where people construct something and illuminate by hanging hundreds of hollowed out turnips on it, each one containing a small candle.

Well, I am wondering if perhaps they were rutabagas, but I am not sure of the difference. Anyone care to help me out here?
